What are you going to keep in your safe? This is one of the deciding factors in choosing a safe. If you’re going to keep cash and you need to keep your insurance happy then you’ll need to choose a safe with the correct cash rating. All our safes are searchable by their cash rating and most safes start at the £0 – £1000 mark. If you’re going to keep valuables in your safe then the value of them should be taken into consideration too. Our safes list the amount of valuables cover they have, and follow the cash rating pattern. Typically a safe that can can hold up to £4000 of cash will hold up to £40,000 worth of valuables, and a safe with a cash rating of £35, 000 can keep £350,000 of valuables from harm’s reach! Don’t make the mistake that many people make, and keep your cash in a safe meant only to protect from fire or to store data – no cash rating, no cover!

Data and valuable technology safes

Keeping valuable USB sticks or back up discs? There’s a safe for that! Many safes will be specifically designed to protect your tech from theft but also fire damage too. Our range of Chubbsafes Data Plus even have special compartments and drawers so that your discs and tech stays safe AND organised. These safes are built for purpose so aren’t intended for cash or valuables.

Many homes and offices will need to hold not only cash and valuables, but also important documents like birth certificates, deeds, bonds, driver’s licences, wills and blueprints. If this describes your home or office then a safe with combined protection is for you! Combined safes are designed to house all your valuables and have added fire protection. The fire-resistant material is not only within the body of the safe, but an intelligent seal around the door will expand up to 25 times its size in the event of a fire! This seals the door shut and keeps your valuable items safe from the heat for longer. Combined protection safes are ideal for homes and offices.

If your insurance company has specified that you need a safe then be sure to check the criteria. As a rule your insurance company will tell you which cash rating they require, making it simpler for you to select, and on our site you can refine your search by cash rating too. Some will insist on an AiS approved safe which is the highly respected board of testers in the industry. These safes tend to be heavier due to their extra security and protection. You can find all our AiS approved safe on our specially dedicated page.

Note: Insurance companies will also insist that your safe is installed and mounted following the ‘manufacturer’s guidelines’. Securing your safe with the correct bolts and mounting it in a suitable place and to a suitable surface, is also important. Concrete walls and floors are the preferred material, but a professional fitting can include floor joists and other secure points. All of our safes come with installation options, if you’re unsure then check with your insurer and then ask us! We’ll be happy to advise you.
